#15 – Truth or Hojo

Nida: “Owie, owie, owie! When I said I’d do anything to go to the party, I didn’t know you meant bodily harm!”
Originally Published: 7/12/00 . 16 pages
Synopsis
The Gundam Wing guys come around and a game of truth, dare, or firehouse breaks out…you either do your dare, or you kiss Hojo!

Ramble Milestones
-First mention of Zechs and Treize.

This ramble is just another easy crossover ramble written around one idea. Is has a couple of amusing moments, but it’s pretty lame. This was the last crossover ramble that was written right on schedule like I had originally planned.

#14 – Hey! Who Da Hell Is ‘Roth?

Twilight: “Twilight! Geez, how would you like it if I called you a stupid name!”

Originally Published: 7/10/00 . 20 pages

Synopsis
Sephiroth is not happy the others have been making fun of his name. When Twilight has the same problem, they team up to take down the others – but when things get out of hand, will they be able to fix things?

Ramble Milestones
-First appearence of Twilight.

Twilight is a character Shell came up with a long time ago, and the reason he was added to the rambles was because we figured he and Sephiroth would get along. This ramble was written in conjunction with Shell – she wrote the Twilight lines, and I wrote the rest. We actually started writing this one on the plane back from Florida. Honestly, though, I’m not a huge fan of this ramble. Aside from Twilight dressing up as a clown, which I think is priceless, the rest of the premise is pretty lame. The whole thing with Tseng and his stocks and his limo seems so strange now. Makes me wonder whatever happened to that limo. Anyway, Twilight made a great addition to the ramble gang.

#13 – When The Webmistress Is Away, The Psychos Will Play

Sephiroth: “We slaved for hours! It was literally a sweat shop! Irvine had a gun!”

Originally Published: 7/10/00 . 8 pages

Synopsis
With the girls away, the boys decide to try their hand at some poetry for them.

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

There is really nothing good about this ramble aside from the quote on this page. The story isn’t particuarly good or funny. At least the ending works, so it’s not a total loss.

#12 – The Trouble With Telephones

Lark: “Uh…..is that the masamune or are you just happy to see me?”

Originally Published: 6/26/00 . 8 pages

Synopsis
Lark isn’t too happy with the sky high phone bill. She’s determined to find out who’s been racking up all the charges – and Sephiroth’s been enlisted to help.

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

There’s nothing really horrible in this ramble – it works for what it is: a short one note story. This is one of those rambles that is pretty cartoonish in nature – but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

#11 – Who Wants to be Surprised?

Reno: “I think a party is a great idea. It would give us a chance to get rid of some of this liquor.”

Originally Published: 6/26/00 . 13 pages

Synopsis
The guys decide they need to throw Shell a surprise party for her birthday.

Ramble Milestones
-First ramble dealing with a birthday.

Eh, this ramble is one of the many early rambles that revolves around a party. There’s a lot that bothers me about this ramble – especially all of Sephiroth’s random laughter. What the heck does he find so funny? I wrote this thing and even I’m not sure.

#10 – Final Fantasy v. Gundam Wing

Wufei: “Shut up, woman! Wufei does not cry!”

Originally Published: 6/22/00 . 27 pages

Synopsis
The FF guys finally take on the GW pilots in a battle to prove who’s the best!

Ramble Milestones
-Irvine plays guitar.

While I think this was a pretty fangirlish idea for a ramble, I think the results were pretty good. I certainly wouldn’t call it a great ramble, but it has a few amusing moments and fitting, though somewhat abrupt ending.

#9 – Sun, Sand and Seaweed

Rufus: “I made myself the greatest sandwich.”

Originally Published: 6/21/00 . 16 pages

Synopsis
The ramble gang is in for more than some sun and swimming when they take a day trip to the beach.

Ramble Milestones
-Shell and Rude do something together.
-Reno’s first arrest. That we see, anyway.
-Rude demonstrates his talent for building sandcastles – the first of many talents he displays over the course of the rambles.

I really like this ramble – it’s definitely one of my favorite early ones. It’s packed full of classic moments, like Rufus’ sandwich, Rinoa and Squall’s disappearing clothes, and of course Reno’s arrest. This is one of those rambles that’s basically just a string of events based on a certain location, but I think it works. And it proves a ramble doesn’t have to have a plot to work.

#8 – Ward Says You’re Screwed Up!

Barret: “Therapy! Yo, I don’t need no stinkin’ therapy!”

Originally Published: 6/20/00 . 10 pages

Synopsis
Lark thinks it’s about time some of the characters get the help that they obviously need. Unfortunately they don’t seem to agree.

Ramble Milestones
-Quistis gets caught stealing for the first time.
-The first appearence of Reeve’s weapon of choice – a paper clip.
-Cid speaks actual words.

I’m going to come right out and say it: this probably has to be my least favorite ramble. It’s just pretty horrible all the way through, except for Reeve and his paper clip.

#7 – Reno: The Man of Many Evil Plans

Reno: *whirls around, sweat drops and an innocent grin* “Be the President of her own fan club. I mean, how stuck up would that be?”

Originally Published: 6/19/00 . 11 pages

Synopsis
Reno knows that Sephiroth has a crush on Lark – and he intends to prove it!

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

This ramble is pretty silly, but the scene where Lark and Sephiroth claim to be “acting out a scene from Titanic” is pretty classic. The beginning of the ramble obviously came from the scene in FFVII where Rude and Reno discuss who they like. How’s that for original? Also, the ending sets up a future ramble. At least there was some evidence that I was planning ahead.

#6 – There’s Something About Clowns…

Red: “But I’m *not* a bird! I’m not even close!”

Originally Published: 6/15/00 . 15 pages

Synopsis
The losers have a plan to take over the ramble room – and Lark and Sephiroth suddenly find themselves locked inside it! Can the others work together to set them free?

Ramble Milestones
-First hint that Sephiroth has a thing for Lark
-The losers’ first attempt to take over the ramble room.

This is the first ramble that actually has a plot! So that’s automatically a plus. Sephiroth making fun of the other ramble characters is one of my favorite moments from these early rambles. I think this is the first ‘real’ ramble. From here, most of them become more than just another one dimensional parody.
