#35 – The Morning After

Irvine: “Either we’ve entered the twilight zone, or you got laid.”

Originally Published: 10/1/00 . 7 pages

Synopsis
After his date with Lark, Sephiroth thinks everything went well…or did it?

Ramble Milestones
-Sephy sings!

This is a sequel to Sephiroth’s Date With Destiny, and ties up some loose ends from that ramble. Since I didn’t write that ramble myself, I had to respond to the events that occured by writing a quick little follow up ramble. This was the result of that. It’s one of the shortest rambles ever, but it serves its purpose.

#34 – Sephiroth’s Date With Destiny

Sephiroth: “Everything’s coming up Sephiroth today!”

Originally Published: 9/28/00 . 35 pages

Synopsis
Sephiroth finally has a date alone with Lark! Will it go well or will he blow it? The gang is bound to find out!

Ramble Milestones
-Sephiroth apparently loves St. Patrick’s day!

I didn’t write this one – it was written by a combination of people. I gave them the storyline and they ran with it. I was very happy with the results, although I did have to write a ramble to tie up some loose ends, which explains the next ramble. There are a few things I personally wouldn’t have done if I wrote it, but it’s interesting to see how other people portray the characters, and I think they did a very good job.

#33 – Uncle Rufus?!

Rufus: “Shut up! I can buy and sell your ass!”

Originally Published: 9/12/00 . 25 pages

Synopsis
When Rufus decides to sell lemonade, he forces the Turks to help him. Will the addicting substance he adds to it help business, or will his new enterprise all come crashing down?

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

This ramble is a classic – but I’m not a huge fan of the title. If I was writing it now I definitely would have given it a more clever title.

Anyway, comments on the actual ramble. It starts off with people playing Ergheiz – I bought that game for the FF characters, obviously, but I never really cared for it too much. Sephiroth kind of sucked. And then there’s Lark’s creepy s&m whip that thankfully never really turned up again.

But I love all the stuff with Rufus, the Turks and his addicting lemonade. I especially love when Rufus looks at all of them and then chooses Rude to try it. Poor Rude. Unfortunately the ‘subplot’ that starts off with video games and fades into people sitting around bored and then sleeping leaves a lot to be desired. Also, the later plot with Rufus buying the ramble room and Lark getting upset makes no sense when you think about the fact that it was Rufus’ money that bought the ramble room to begin with. Eh, maybe he signed it over to Lark or something.

#32 – Theme Park Nazi’s 3

Seifer: “I hate those damn sharks!”

Originally Published:  9/1/00 . 27 pages

Synopsis
After making a huge mistake, can Lark and Sephiroth ever be friends again? The gang takes on Epcot!

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

The original beginning note stated: Hey! The last part! Watch out for this one to get serious, sappy and soap operaish in parts tho. But there’s plenty of humor too of course!

Well, in my opinion this ramble was pretty light on the humor, but I do enjoy the scene where Lark and Sephiroth bond before the fireworks start. Disney is my favorite vacation spot, and I know if I was writing it now I would have done it more justice. But I can’t expect greatness from the first vacation ramble set.

#31 – Theme Park Nazi’s 2

Shell: “The first thing we have to do is buy everyone character hats! Me and Rude are getting Minnie ones!”

Originally Published: 8/31/00 . 33 pages

Synopsis
First stop the Magic Kingdom! But not everything is going smoothly. Reno’s scared of drinking, Tseng couldn’t sleep after rooming with Reeve, and Seifer’s annoying everyone with his commando park touring style! Will they survive their first day without killing each other?

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

Ew, the mediocrity continues. There are a few things – Squall falling asleep on the peoplemover, Rude finishing Rufus’ maze – but other than that, blah. I don’t like how I had the characters get recognized like they were celebrities – that never happened again! Two other things of note – the dialogue between Lark and Shell at the Haunted Mansion really happened in real life, ride stopping and all, and the reason Lark hates the Snow White ride is because it horrorfied me on my first trip when I was five and I couldn’t ride it for years afterwards.

#30 – Theme Park Nazi’s

Rufus: “Speaking of Lark, where did she and Reno go to get the car? Wutai?! I’m wearing long sleeves here!”

Originally Published: 8/28/00 . 33 pages

Synopsis
Quistis scores some tickets for the gang to go to Disney World! Everyone’s excited about vacationing at the Happiest Place on Earth, but first they have to get there!

Ramble Milestones
-First vacation!
-Reeve has his first tipping issue.

According to the original note at the beginning of this ramble, going on a trip wasn’t my idea. Of course I don’t remember who did give me the idea. I definitely kicked it up a notch with the yaoi content in this ramble – between Tseng chasing after Reeve and Vincent and Sephiroth making out on the plane! I also use my magical mysterious powers to send the weapons everyone was carrying back to the ramble room from the airport. I think this was the last time I used them – thank god, because that was pretty stupid. Anyway, there are a few amusing things in this ramble, but I find it pretty blah overall. Not exactly the most exciting start to a vacation.

#29 – Too Much of a Good Thing

Seifer: “Yeah…unless we took a magic, haunted bus and somehow ended up in hell!”

Synopsis
Reno and Noelle invite the gang out for a night of fun at a club. When the booze starts flowing, plenty of things are about to go wrong!

Ramble Milestones
-Lizzie and Laguna get together.
-Rude displays his talent for gambling.

The original note at the end of this ramble was ‘sorry this one sucks’! Yeah, I don’t consider this one of my best rambles, but I enjoy the Seifer line quoted above if nothing else. Also, I can totally see Reno getting a tattoo of someone’s name on his butt. This ramble is mostly just another party ramble, but at least it had Laguna in it for a change!

#28 – If You Can’t Say Anything Nice……

Lark: “I knew it! Where is the masamune? Whose body is it in?”

Originally Published: 8/17/00 . 12 pages

Synopsis
Seifer wants Lark and Sephiroth to double date with him and Ashley. Sephiroth is trying to follow some advice and be nice to everyone, but will doing so get him the girl?

Ramble Milestones
-First guests that come from the real world.
-First time Ashley and Seifer get together.

As Randy Jackson might say on American Idol, this one was just a’wight for me, dawg. Not a great one, but there are definitely ones that are worse. I find it strange that Sephiroth manages to pull a six pack of beer out of nowhere in this ramble…he must have lost that skill at some point, otherwise Reno and Irvine never would have left him alone.

#27 – To Oz?

Tin Man: “Moron. Maybe you’re not the only one who needs a brain, Scarecrow.”

Originally Published: 8/10/00 . 45 pages

Synopsis
Lark gets a bump on the head and finds herself in the wonderful land of Oz! Will her trip down the yellow brick road end in happiness? Or will the Wicked Witch of the West trap her forever?

Ramble Milestones
-First ramble dedicated to just parodying just one thing.

I still love this ramble. I think this is the first ramble that’s truly great all the way through and consistently funny to boot. Although I think if I was writing the ramble now, I wouldn’t choose Zell for the scarecrow. He still fits, but the fact that the scarecrow is supposed to be the smartest one is not quite in character with Zell. But it’s not a big deal. One of my favorite things about this ramble are Roto’s lines. I think Red’s part in this ramble might still be his best ever. Anyway, this ramble paved the way for other movie parodies to come.

#26 – That’s What Friends Are For

Twilight: “Ack! No more hugs!”

Originally Published: 8/9/00 . 13 pages

Synopsis
Sephiroth, Twilight and Wufei try to be friends while Lark and Shell try to interfere!

Ramble Milestones
-First appearance of the TV room.
-There’s apparently an intercom that’s never used again.

Boy, this ramble is so old the TV room had a N64, a Playstation, and golly gee – a brand spankin’ new VCR! Invite the neighbors over! Heh, anyway, I thought Sephiroth, Twilight and Wufei would make an interesting group of friends, so this ramble was born. Sephiroth and Twilight’s friendship lasted, but the whole thing with Wufei never really did pan out. In case it isn’t completely obvious, I don’t like Wufei. At all. Anyway, yes, as a child I did frequently watch my Hugabunch video, and I can still sing the song. The idea of those three getting traumatized by the Hugabunch video is still a classic ramble moment in my book.
