#152 – Strip Away Your Problems

Dante: “Not vampires, if that’s what you’re wondering.” *grins* “Nice fangs, gorgeous.”

Originally Published: 1/4/06 . 46 pages

Synopsis
Richter convinces Tifa to drop Cloud off at the new Video Game Character Therapy center, which is run by Koudelka and former patient Yuri. They promise they’ll help him get over his ‘RPG Main Character Syndrome’ which is causing his current state. Meanwhile, Rufus builds some condos and some new people move in, and a strip club opens up in town! Things sure are changing!

Ramble Milestones
-First appearance of: Dante, Lloyd, Koudelka, Yuri, Solid Snake, The Wild Arms Gang, and Serge.
-First appearance of the Video Game Character Therapy Center and The Hot Package.

It’s a new character explosion! Let’s tackle them one at a time. I needed other patients for the RPG main character group. Serge and Rudy were obvious choices because they are non speaking main characters. I needed someone to run the therapy center – I’ve never played Koudelka myself, but I watched it be played and I enjoyed it. I thought she had some qualifications as a psychic. It was also suggested to me that I use Yuri from Shadow Hearts as her sidekick, since he had some main character issues. Even though I knew nothing about him, it made sense that Koudelka wouldn’t be doing this alone. I love Solid Snake as a character and he was so easy to make fun of – I thought having him move in would add a little something different. And finally there’s Dante. And Lloyd. I’ll admit it – Dante was added just to date Alucard. I knew about the Devil May Cry games and the character, of course, but the idea of adding him to the rambles didn’t pop into my head until I saw his picture in a magazine. And I immediately knew he was the guy for Alucard. In doing some research on the character, I discovered he seemed to dislike properly wearing a shirt, and there was that one part where he swings around a stripper pole pretty well. That’s how the strip club came about. And Lloyd was born because I was told Dante had a brother. Named Lloyd. Whoops – I soon found out his actual name is Vergil. I didn’t like that name, so I decided to stick with Lloyd.

#151 – How Rufus Stole Christmas

Cid: “@#$@%#$^@#^@$&#$*^#^@#%@!”

Originally Published: 12/24/05 . 30 pages

Synopsis
Everyone’s headed to Algus’ country home for Christmas. They’re all excited about the presents, but when Rufus finds out he’s getting nothing, he decides to steal Christmas!

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

This is my favorite Christmas ramble. I’m a huge fan of the Grinch, so parodying it was a no brainer, even though it’s been parodied a lot. I had to sit there for awhile to come up with all the Christmas carols that would affect Dracula.

(Yes, Still) In Progress!

Well, we’re down to the last 50 or so! I can’t wait until I’m finally done and all of them are online again! And also a lot of my favorites are coming up, along with some of my favorite characters who weren’t introduced until the last 50 rambles or so.

Once I’m done with the rambles I’ll of course be putting up the movie and the Gaidens, of which only 9 were ever published online. I say that because I actually have a 10th one that I wrote and never put up. There’s also a mini ramble floating around on the old Livejournal group that I’ll be putting up as well. So there’s actually going to be new content at the end of this!

Anyway, if you want to subscribe to this blog when I post new updates, you can check out the side bar and enter your email over there. I usually update on the weekend when I have a an hour or two to sit down and put everything I’ve done over the week.

Finally, if you’re interested into what I’m up to these days, you can check out my video game humor blog, Sephiroth’s Tutu. Or you can follow me on Twitter. I am also working on some other stuff that I hope to get out there someday. In the meantime, enjoy the rambles! And if you’re new here, it’s best to check out the ABOUT page and then start at the beginning.

#150 – Sephiroth’s Award

Lucretia: “Sweetie…being evil doesn’t make you great.”

Synopsis
Sephiroth is thrilled when he finds out he’s the winner of the Video Game Villain of the Year award, but no one else is. Will he take the throphy?

Ramble Milestones
-First appearances of: Bowser, King Dedede, Nightmare, Nemesis, and even Maxi.

I really love this ramble. It has it all – comedy, drama, and a bunch of new crazy characters, including Maxi from Soul Caliber, who has a throwaway part here but has a larger part in later rambles. Speaking of Soul Caliber, Nightmare’s dialogue with Siegfried is taken right from the game. This had been a ramble I had been planning for a long time – in the original concept it was going to be a general ‘villain’ award, but then I changed it to make it specific to video games. (And I’m so glad I did, because I don’t think I could have pulled off writing my original award committee, which included the Wicked Witch of the West for some reason.) Sephiroth is obviously one of the major ramble characters, and he’s probably the one who goes through the most character development over time. The ending is one of my favorite parts of this ramble – I had it in my head, line by line, for months before it actually got written.

#149 – Three Heads Are Better Than One

Irvine: “Dude… I must be wasted… ‘Cause I’m seein’ double!”

Originally Published: 12/12/05 . 23 pages

Synopsis
After Nida messes up Hojo’s experiment, there are three different Brady’s are running around the ramble room! Can the losers set things right again?

Ramble Milestones
-D’s first appearance.

“Brady” said he wanted to write a ramble. And since he often helped me out and I liked his idea, I said sure. He then dragged his ass and took forever to write it, so I finally had to step in and help him finish it. I enjoy the results, although like with every ramble I didn’t write completely, there are lines that make me…well, I don’t wanna say cringe, because that’s not the right word. But there are lines I would have never written because they don’t quite fit my vision of the character. But I let this stuff slide. I’ve never had something be so out of character I had to change it. My favorite part is the ending, which wasn’t intended and was a matter of trying to get the ramble done and kind of forgetting about those characters and what they were doing. But honestly it worked out for the better, because that should have been what was going to happen from the beginning.

#148 – Porch Swing Appreciation Day

Rufus: “But how could it disappear?! And on Porch Swing Appreciation Day at that!”

Originally Published: 12/6/05 . 9 pages

Synopsis
The porch swing disappears on it’s own appreciation day! Can the ramble gang track down the thief?

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

This ramble was not my idea, but it took me awhile before I actually wrote it. If you don’t know what Rufus’ and Algus’ shirts mean…the answer is in the next ramble. Spoiler alert!

#147 – Beary Big Problems

Rude: “…Mr. Jingles just pooped on your rug.”

Originally Published: 12/06/05 . 11 pages

Synopsis
When Rufus can’t find Mr. Jingles and finds a real bear in his place, he thinks Mr. Jingles has turned real! Can anyone convince him otherwise?

Ramble Milestones
-We learn Mr. Jingles’ first name is Thaddeus.

I love this ramble because it’s short and funny. If I had tried to drag the bear thing on it would have gotten stupid. And at least Rufus’ insanity is consistent – in a previous ramble we did learn he bathes the bear in Phoenix downs because someday he’ll be a real bear.

#146 – Homeward Bound – The Ripoff

Blacky: *licking paw* “Yuck. The floors of that cage were not very clean. And the litter box! Ugh! I would never stay here again.”

Originally Published: 11/29/05 . 24 pages

Synopsis
The ramble room pets have been taken away! Will they be able to find their way home?

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

This sounded way better in concept than it turned out. I like the beginning, then I realized all the ramble pets were pretty much one dimensional, and totally rushed the ending. And you can tell I just gave up and just wanted to be finished. The best stuff here is all human – especially the drama Sephiroth creates.

#145 – Thanks But No Thanks

Seifer: “Ew! I wouldn’t eat anything you made, chicken wuss! It probably has hot dogs in it!”

Originally Published: 11/24/05 . 31 pages

Synopsis
The Belmonts decide to host Thanksgiving, and everyone’s going. But will it still be a relaxing holiday when Alucard and Dracula show up?

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

This is my favorite Thanksgiving ramble, because it’s just insane. Dracula totally steals the show here by ringing every time Sephiroth’s cell phone does, and unintentionally ruining Rufus’ famous punch. The ending lines just kind of happened. I can get very picky about the last lines, because I’m obsessed with satisfying endings. And I wasn’t sure how to quite end this one. So I just kept going until that last line got typed, and I knew I had my ending.

#144 – Lily of the Snow Valley

Tseng: “You’re right, Elena. It’s about time I brought a person into the world for a change.”

Originally Published: 11/10/05 . 18 pages

Synopsis
Hojo’s built a weather machine that he’s sure will win a prize! But will it affect the birth of Elena and Tseng’s daughter?

Ramble Milestones
-Lily is born.

Between Hojo’s weather machine and Dracula eating Sephiroth’s phone, this is a pretty solid ramble. I love the name Lily, but I had to do quite a bit of research to figure out if I could connect it to snow in any way.
