#45 – Fun With Computers (comic)

Sephiroth: “CYBER SEX?!”

Synopsis
Lark and Tseng have some fun on instant messenger.

Ramble Milestones
-First comic!

I’m not much of an artist, but I came up with this idea and decided to go with it. I’m pretty happy with how this came out, not only drawing wise but also for the story, which was too short to work as anything but a comic.

#44 – Cheap Skate Rude

Shell: “Nah, no point in getting your money back for it.”

Originally Published: 10/16/00 . 15 pages

Synopsis
Rude is running out of money to buy gifts for Shell with! Can anyone help him, or will he end up in jail?

Ramble Milestones
-First time Lark and Sephiroth sing “Don’t Go Breakin’ My Heart”.

This is listed as a classic ramble, and it’s one of the better early ones, but one of the weaker classics. Still, there’s a lot to like, such as Rude’s progressively worse gifts for Shell, and Rufus telling Tseng he’s willing to lower Reno’s pay if it will make him feel better. Luckily for Tseng it’s obvious the pay was adjusted later on to make things fair again. This ramble also mentions two things that I thankfully think disappear after this ramble: the fact that Lark’s a Turk and her stupid whip. Lark and Sephiroth also famously sing all of “Don’t Go Breakin’ My Heart” by Elton John and Kiki Dee in this ramble, which definitely becomes this song. Also, it’s amusing that Shell keeps pointing out how slutty Lark acts, because hey – someone has to.

#42 – What You Can’t See In The Dark (part one)

Noelle: “Are you *sure* it doesn’t involve chipmunks and fruit juice?!?!?!”

Originally Published: 10/14/00 . 25 pages

Synopsis
Lots of bad things can happen in the dark…like murder!

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

This is a guest written ramble. My friend who wrote it was the queen of the “black out” parody, so this was the result of that.

#41 – -Twilight- Zone–Hey! Who Crossed My Name Out!

Laguna: “Whatever.”

Originally Published: 10/14/00 . 10 pages

Synopsis
Twilight hits his head and suddenly everything is backwards! This can’t be real, can it?

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

This ramble is pretty amusing all the way through – the bizarro ramble room is a pretty scary place, and I think I did a pretty accurate job in making everyone the opposite of what they really are. I had a hard time choosing a quote for this page, actually, but I had to go with the Laguna quote. Even though I like the ramble I hate, hate, HATE the title. It has to be one of my least favorite ramble titles. It’s just so long and stupid. I definitely could have called it something better.

#40 – Follow That Seph! (part two)

Barret: “Yo! Kangaroo rat! I choose your punk ass!”

Originally Published: 10/13/00 . 30 pages

Synopsis
Sephiroth is still missing, and Lark is starting to lose hope. Will they ever see each other again?

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

The best part of this ramble is Barrett’s line quoted above, which is a classic. Other than that, this ramble is pretty much as dry as the other ones. There are a few moments here and there, and the ending is okay, but as far as two part rambles go, this pair is pretty weak. I must admit I used to know that Team Rocket dialogue by heart – how embarrassing is that?

#39 – Follow That Seph! (part one)

Twilight: “Why the hell are we going to a stupid garden? What, do the carrots have some good info?”

Originally Published: 10/11/00 . 37 pages

Synopsis
When Vincent discovers Sephiroth is gone, Lark is determined to find him. Will they succeed?

Ramble Milestones
-Technically Edgar’s and Locke’s first appearance.

I guess it was interesting at the time to see the characters out of their element, but overall this ramble doesn’t have much humor, aside from a few moments here and there, mostly involving Rufus, Treize, Quatre and Laguna. When I wrote this ramble I chose characters from FF6 and Fushigi Yugi that I liked and that I thought I could portray easily. Little did I know I’d be included Edgar and Locke in the rambles for good much later on, and while various characters from Fushigi Yugi have had cameos over the course of the rambles, these particular characters were never seen again. The title of this ramble comes from the title of the Sesame Street movie “Follow That Bird”.

#38 – What Boredom Will Drive You To

Cloud: “I can sum it all up in two words: Free Willy.”

Originally Published: 10/10/00 . 22 pages

Synopsis
Playing the Newlywed Game can’t possibly go wrong, can it?

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

Nothing too exciting in this ramble, except for the ending, and the fact that Reeve knows more about Tseng than his current girlfriend. When I wrote this I did not have the ending planned – it was just one of those things that happened.

#37 – Just Give Me the Freakin’ Candy

Heero: “I’d much rather work for you than Dr. J. Sometimes I can still hear that claw clicking…”

Originally Published: 10/9/00 . 26 pages

Synopsis
It’s time for a Halloween Party, ramble room style!

Ramble Milestones
-JT’s first appearance.

This ramble is so craptacular I had a hard time just picking a quote for this intro! I think I spent more time thinking of costumes for everybody than I did on plot – which explains the lack of one, I guess. In all honesty I don’t think any of the Halloween centered rambles are very good – and this one certainly didn’t set much of a standard.

#36 – Turks Rock!

Heidegger: “Gya haa haa! Lark’s a Turk! Now it looks like Scarlet isn’t the only skanky ho’ in Shinra!”

Originally Published: 10/9/00 . 15 pages

Synopsis
Lark, Noelle and Sephiroth decide to join the Turks! Will they have fun, or did they make a huge mistake?

Ramble Milestones
-Rufus is reading Dictator Weekly, which he claims is Reeve’s.

This ramble is pretty stupid, aside from a few moments involving Rufus’ claims about Dictator Weekly and a few Vincent moments. As for Lark being a Turk… I think that was only ever mentioned again once – I’m glad all the other Turks try to talk her out of it and that it’s a horrible job, because as we see in later rambles, it really isn’t fun.
