#74 – I Love You…You Love…Me?

Opal: “Twilight, when I open my eyes I better not see any dead bodies.”

Originally Published: 2/12/01 . 24 pages

Synopsis
It’s Valentine’s day at the ramble room. Irvine is hiding, Reno and Rufus are fighting, Rude has gift difficulties and Sephiroth can’t decide between Lark and Vincent. What’s a super villain to do?

Ramble Milestones
-Reeve and Tseng finally admit they love each other
-Nida and Scarlet kiss
-Kuja does unspeakable things for diamonds

There’s a lot going on in this ramble, because obviously I wanted to touch on all the different couples. It’s pretty cute. Reeve and Tseng finally confess their love for each other in this one, and Rufus is really sweet to a distraught Reno. And of course there’s more action in the ever complicated Lark/Sephiroth/Vincent triangle. But Zell and his popsicle stick art project is probably the responsible for the funniest moments.

#73 – Losers Losers Everywhere, So Let’s All……..Run Away

Scarlet: “If I was one of those people who cared, I would probably call the cops.”

Originally Published: 2/5/01 . 20 pages

Synopsis
Noelle decides she wants to date Nida. But will she change her mind after spending a day in loser land?

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

This is one of the few rambles featuring only “the losers”. Obviously I put these characters together because I hate them. Heidegger, Scarlet and Hojo are also memorable characters from 7, but Nida is an extremely minor character (and yet still highly obnoxious character.) from 8. Later I added Kuja after playing 9 and totally hating his guts. The losers totally evolved over time (at least a little!), mostly because I started to like them. Well, writing about them anyway. (I actually do love Kuja now as a game character, but I used to seriously hate his guts.) Anyway, the girl who Noelle was based on requested that she date Nida for a hot second, and this ramble was born. It’s hard for me to pick any type of favorite moment with this one – there’s so much to love. I’m torn between Nida’s tirades, Hojo’s creepiness and Scarlet’s bitchiness. Of course there’s also the part where Heidegger chokes, and no one wants to save him. Ah, memories.

#72 – Ramble Room Is Falling Down My Fair Larky

Rufus: “I bought a new one! It fell off the back of a truck!” *suddenly the mirror falls off the wall and onto rufus* “Ow! And now it fell on me!!”

Originally Published: 1/31/01  . 29 pages

Synopsis
The ramble room is falling to pieces! Can the gang work together and fix everything up, or will Shell have to whip them into shape!

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

People used to ask me all the time if they could be in the rambles. Honestly, I wasn’t too keen on putting “real” people in the rambles because I never ended up making them very interesting. (Didn’t want to accidentally offend anyone!) But occasionally I would put people in there if we talked a lot and they asked. This ramble is solid, I guess, if not particularly hilarious. I do enjoy the whole saga with Rufus and the mirror. And all the stuff with Shell smelling the guys at the beginning is oddly amusing – that was her idea. She really did read that in a magazine, believe it or not. Also, I totally forgot about the drama between Lark and Sephiroth in this ramble. Their relationship was very…slowly…going somewhere!

#71 – Sleepover Girls

Irvine: “This is it, boys. Whoever wins will be a king among kings, and whoever loses will be taunted until my throat is sore!”

Originally Published: 1/26/01 . 23 pages

Synopsis
The guys decide to spy on the girls’ sleepover, but little do they know the girls’ are on to them! They make up stuff to get back at them, but then Lark lets something slip that Sephiroth told her in confidence. Can she repair the damage?

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

As the original beginning note stated, the whole premise is loosely based on an episode of “Saved by the Bell”. There’s a lot of silliness here, but there are some gems buried in this one. And Sephiroth is surprisingly sweet to Vincent at the end too. I think Vincent definitely gained more of a backbone as the rambles went on. He’s pretty fragile in this one.

#70 – Back To The Book: Final Fairy Tales II

King Reno: “No water?!?! Then let them drink beer!!!”

Originally Published: 1/26/01 . 40 pages

Synopsis
The girls open up their favorite fairy tale books once again for a continuation of their stories. They’re not over yet!

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

I loved writing the first one so much that I had to do a sequel. (And then a third one. But we’ll get to that way later.) I love this one even more than the first one. My favorite story is either bankrupt King Reno or Prince Rufus’ quest for an heir. (FYI, the whole Mountain Dew/sperm count thing is not true.) I also enjoy the Narrator interacting with the characters. And getting beat up by them. She had it coming.

#69 – An Irvine In the Hand Is Worth 7 In the Barn

Lark: *out of breath* “I gotta marry into *this* family!!”

Originally Published: 1/22/01 . 44 pages

Synopsis
Yee haw! The ramble gang is off for a stay in the country with Irvine’s family! The ramble girls fall all over Irvine’s handsome brothers, and the guys aren’t liking this one bit! But Irvine’s Pa called the gang for some help! Someone’s been stealing their prized cattle! Can the ramble gang solve the case and save the farm?

Ramble Milestones

-First appearance of the Myterry Machanie
-First appearance of the Kinneas Brothers
-First appearance of Cousin Maxwell and his clan (And also “That cow is dead!”)
The beginning of this ramble was written by myself and four of the other five ramble girls. I used to find it much more amusing back then than I do now. Although I still do enjoy the scene where Shell calls Houston the wrong name and of course there’s the introduction of Cousin Maxwell. This ramble is more of a classic because of the characters it gives us (the Kinneas brothers, Cousin Maxwell, grandpa, Bessie and Flossy) rather than the actual content. How could you not love those charismatic Kinneas brothers?

#68 – Lark Loves…Hojo?

Kuja: “I’m more of a girl then you’ll ever be!”

Originally Published: 1/18/01 . 18 pages

Oh no! Hojo has thought up a new plan to take over the ramble room and he’s drugged Vincent, Zidane and Lark with a potion that makes them think they’re madly in love with him! Can Sephiroth, Rufus, and Irvine find them and get them back to normal?

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

There’s so much to like about this ramble. The plot is simple, yet hilarious. Scarlet particularly keeps the zingers coming – my favorite is when she tells Hojo the worst thing he’s ever done is make a potion that forces people to love him. I also love Rufus’ tangent about his shoes that leads to him rambling on about a money tree.

#67 – Sun, Sleds and Snow

Squall: “I think I got snow in places I didn’t know I had.”

Originally Published: 1/12/01 . 21 pages

Synopsis
The ramble gang decides to take a day and go sledding! Seifer just bought a new sled and Rufus has made the best hot chocolate ever! Now they just have to keep Reno from getting arrested…

Ramble Milestones
-First time we learn Reno does not have a driver’s license.

This ramble was the winter equivalent of ramble #8, where we headed to the beach and a few similar things happened. This ramble is pretty ho-hum. The best parts all involve Reno – first with his illegal fire, and then his getting arrested.

#66 – Sephiroth Land

Turks: *sing* “Sephiroth Land, Sephiroth Land, buy cheap merchandise, yes you can. Because it’s Sephiroth, Sephiroth Land.”

Originally Published: 1/9/01 . 67 pages

Synopsis
Rufus starts his own amusement park, and he names it after Sephiroth! Everyone is given jobs there, but not everyone is having a good time. Aren’t amusement parks supposed to be fun?

Ramble Milestones
-First appearance of the licky licky monster.
-The first appearance of the “spelling kid”.
-First appearance of the “real” Cait Sith.

Despite the weird stuff with Mountain Dew and some people acting slightly out of character, this ramble is one of the classics. It gives us the infamous licky licky monster for one thing, along with Twilight’s #1 nemesis, the spelling kid. It’s also the first ramble to feature a variety of anime tributes. There is a lot of stuff to love about this ramble, like Hojo’s creepy petting zoo, Squall and Seifer’s awful show, and Vincent’s face painting. And I wish I could take credit for writing it all myself. But the fact is about 1/3 (including the theme song) was a group effort and my sister helped with roughly half of it. The licky licky monster was sadly not my creation. In fact the whole concept of this ramble was randomly born from an episode of Cowboy Bebop we were watching. They showed a crater with what looked like an amusement park in it, and we were like, “What is that? Some kind of Sephiroth amusement park? And then this ramble was born. And while this ramble is mostly an ensemble piece, there are three Rufus moments I need to mention. 1. That he keeps threatening to take away the porch swing to get his way, which makes everyone gasp in horror at the thought. 2. His greeting to the very forgettable Jake: “Hey……you.” and 3. How he gets his revenge on Zell for eating his precious sandwich all the way back in ramble #8 by gobbling up his hot dogs. Oh, and there’s the ending of course, which is still one of my all time favorites. And in case you’re wondering, aside from Gundam Wing there are tributes to 7 different animes: Perfect Blue, Fake, Fushigi Yugi, Vampire Princess Miyu, Trigun, Pokemon and Kenshin.

#65 – Ok, So It’s Not Really New Years…

Sephiroth: “I don’t know what’s in your sick, twisted, yaoi perverted brain, woman, but we were playing tic-tac-toe.”

Originally Published: 1/6/01 . 34 pages

Synopsis
Since the gang missed New Years, they decide to celebrate a little late. A bunch of new friends are invited to the party – but one person isn’t invited – Sephiroth. After what happened, no one wants him around. Will they change their minds, or will he forever be an outcast?

Ramble Milestones
-The first time Lark’s “pirate story” comes up.

First of all, happy 2001 – omg. Anyway, I had a huge smile on my face the whole time I was reading this ramble. Even though I laughed aloud several times (mostly at ‘stripper Seifer’ and at the antics of drunk Noelle), this ramble was just plain fun. My favorite parts all involve Sephiroth playing his selection of strangely girly games with Vincent, Tseng and Reeve while they consistently keep letting him win. Especially the ‘go to the end’ or whatever card from Candy Land. (Why does Sephy own this game? Seriously. Compensating for a lost childhood?) Even though this one ends kind of abruptly, it’s still a pretty solid addition.
