#55 – Take One and Call Me In the Morning

Irvine: “….I don’t like the idea of him carrying her off to bed.”

Originally Published: 11/8/00 . 28 pages

Synopsis
Lark’s sick and all the girls are away! Can the ramble guys get their act together and help her feel better?

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

This is a pretty good ramble, mostly for the cute Sephiroth/Lark moments than the rest of those idiots running around. Is this the only ramble where we actually see Reno drive? Not shockingly, it’s a scary experience. This ramble is amusing, if not laugh aloud funny, but it doesn’t quite hold up over time.

#54 – Sing Your Heart Out (part two)

Lizzie: “He sounds like three dying cats in a blender with an elephant and a squeaky toy!”

Originally Published: 11/17/00 . 23 pages

Synopsis
Rehearsals aren’t going so well. Sephiroth feels bad that his character cheats on Lark’s character and refuses to kiss Noelle. But a bad rehearsal means a good performance! …Right?

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

So according to my end notes on this ramble, I hated it! Well, I don’t now! It’s certainly not the best one ever, and I wasn’t really laughing out loud, but it had me smiling a lot. I still enjoy the guys playing Final Fantasy VII, even if I didn’t like the weak Cloud revenge subplot. This ramble is probably more enjoyable if you’re familiar with Into the Woods, which you should check out if you’ve never seen it or heard the music. It’s awesome.

#53 – Sing Your Heart Out (part one)

Sephiroth: “Try outs for what? Are you starting a fencing team? A killing team? I’d like to be on a killing team!”

Originally Published: 10/28/00 . 15 pages

Synopsis
Lark and Noelle decide to put on a production of ‘Into the Woods’ with the ramble gang as their cast and crew. Will anyone show up to try out?

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

This ramble is amusing enough – I like the different characters playing Final Fantasy VII. I’m a big time musical theater junkie, so it’s no surprise that I wrote a ramble like this. I don’t think it was supposed to be two parts, but I probably got lazy and decided to make it a two parter.

#52 – Lark Leonhart

Squall: “Whatev- aw, dammit!”

Originally Published: 10/25/00 . 19 pages

Synopsis
Rinoa breaks up with Squall for Kiros! Can Lark and Squall’s pretend relationship get them back together again?

Ramble Milestones
-First appearance of the porch swing.

If I was judging these now I’m not sure this one would have made “medal” status. There are amusing bits, and there’s a decent story, but why the hell does Lark let Sephiroth watch her make out with someone? That is weird. And I wrote this. Plot device – that’s why. Anyway, let’s say a warm welcome to the under used porch swing and wonder when the hell last time Celebrity Deatch Match was actually on TV.

#51 – Uses For an Empty Bottle

Sephiroth: “Come on! This is really disgusting! He probably has diseases!”

Originally Published: 10/20/00 . 14 pages

Synopsis
With an empty bottle and nothing else to do, the gang decides to play spin the bottle. Only when Lark’s involved, you know there’s going to be special rules!

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

Oh, spin the bottle. It’s so high school. There are a few chuckle worthy moments here, but mostly this ramble is all fan service. Yaoi fan service. I still enjoy the part where Reeve just kind of shrugs and goes for it with Tseng in front of everyone.

#50 – Holy Crap! 50 Rambles!

Lark: “Dammit, Sephiroth…. Because I think I’m falling in love with you…”

Originally Published: 10/17/00 . 39 pages

Synopsis
A celebration of the rambles so far.

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

I still find it hard to believe that I churned out 50 of these things in such a short period of time. Granted, a few weren’t written by me, and several more were comics, but that’s still a lot of writing in like 6 months. Anyway, I know TV shows do clip shows all the time, but that kind of format just doesn’t work as well with the writing. It also doesn’t help that I’m recapping what happened in like the worst rambles ever here. This ramble is pretty boring. I did use the whole “clip show” format again in the future, but never this badly. Thankfully.

#49 – Reeve the Dork

Reeve: “Hahahahaha!”

Synopsis
Reeve finds an amusing error…for him, anyway.

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

This is one of my favorite comics, and while I like the story, I like the drawings better. I like how the laughter drifts over, louder and louder, finally waking up Sephiroth and really annoying Reno and Rufus. My favorite panel is hysterically laughing Reeve, pounding his fist on the table.

#48 – My Love Tells Me the Future

Sephiroth: “This will solve all my problems!”

Synopsis
Sephiroth’s determined to get an answer to his question.

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

Ah, Sephiroth and the magic 8 ball. I couldn’t resist poking some fun at his devotion to this toy. My favorite panel is where Sephiroth is standing there shaking it while Vincent and Tseng look at each other confused.

#47 – Poor Vincent

Vincent: “Has anyone seen my angel?”

Synopsis
Vincent’s on the search for Sephiroth.

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

Not one of my favorites story wise – this one is pretty lame. But I like the illustrations of Rufus, Reno and Tseng sitting on the couch – especially Tseng hitting himself in the face in the last panel.

#46 – Fun In A Closet

Lark: “Oh, great!! What now?!”

Synopsis
Lark’s not too happy when she accidentally locks herself in a closet. Luckily she’s not bored for long!

Ramble Milestones
Nothing this time.

My ramble comic storylines were limited by what characters I felt I could draw – not many! I could get away with drawing as few as possible in this comic, where two panels are nothing but a closet door and a keyhole with an eye peering through it. Not one of my favorite comics, but I like Reeve and Tseng’s little embrace.
